I was extremely critical of him against St.George, but he can't be solely blamed for the weakness of our Right side defence.

Gleeson's injury has weakened us in defence out wide as Marsh is still learning.

I didn't think Goulding did a lot wrong against Hull FC personally.

I actually think he over achieved last year & people expect too much of him this year.

If you mean Darrell Goulding, he was exposed by St. George many times, not all of them his fault, as his centre had come in, meaning he had no chance of defending a 2-1 overlap. Didn't do much wrong yesterday, probably should have at least tried to contest for the 2nd Hull FC try, but he isn't the first Winger who isn't that good under the high ball.

no way, he is the best winger we have at the moment,
he does his job better than most people on the park.
marsh was the problem against hull, he was way way to hesitant and actually ran away from a attacker at one point. this coupled with joel just inside is why goulding gets left on his own against 3 players.

I think Pat Richards would have been exposed in that St George game..... their attack was quality.

Goulding is a quality squad player. With a salary cap in place I am happy to have players like Daz who always give 100%. You don't need world class wingers to win things, you need world class centres.

Goulding wasn't that bad against Hull. He worked hard as usual. He didn't do anything wrong for the Westerman try. There were two men on his outside, Westerman was Leuluai's man and he failed to deal with him.
For Briscoe's try he took his eye off his man and was concentrating on the ball and so didn't spot Briscoe charging through which is disappointing but even Richards has been caught out with cross field kicks before. The attacking player always has the advantage in the air.

its the problem every game, his and the second row on that side always come in leaving him with a 2-1 or more often than not a 3 -1 situation

I think its premature to write Goulding off based on the St. George and Hull games but the Hull game certainly showed we don't have the option of kicking to his wing on the last tackle. We tried it several times and he was out jumped each time.

If opposition teams target him with high kicks he will need the protection of his centre and so providing we have the tactics sorted out to cope there is no reason why he can't be an effective player for us. Mind you I said pretty much the same thing about Ainscough and look what happened there.

i agree with the centre problem(wigans own fault if my source is right about gleeson i new before christmas so had anough time to solve it) but for me they need to get amos back in straight away, will be supprised if he starts the next game.

Agree with the first post, iv said this all along, he was very lucky to play in a championship winning team last year outside a world class . He was kicked too twice yesterday and made a meal of them both, he had 2 chances in the first half, one of which he dropped with the line open in front of him. Teams are beginning to target him as he gets sucked in too easily in defence and is very poor under a high ball. He's a very average winger, Ade Gardner syndrome last season, average winger in a very good side.
